
Getting tahini paste is not that easy for people like me living in Kerala. But sesame seeds is commonly available in market at a very cheaper price.And so, I always feel it is better to use sesame seeds rather than search around in market for tahini paste which is a bit expensive too.
Hummus is considered to be one of the healthiest spreads found across the world that does not compromise with taste too. With the goodness of chickpeas combined with sesame seeds, extra-virgin olive oil and freshness of lemon juice makes hummus a lovely dip.
It tastes best with pita bread but my personal favourite is pita bread , grilled chicken and the gourmet hummus.Seriously, I can live happily my whole life with these three ….
Here I have shared the basic hummus recipe which can be modified as per your wish.(Adding paprika, jalapeno, mint leaves etc etc……….)
Recipe for Arabic Hummus without tahini paste
Ingredients required
Chickpeas or kabuli channa (cooked)or Vella kadala – 2 cups(You can either use canned one or homemade which can be prepared by soaking overnight and then cooking)
White Sesame seeds /till / velutha ellu – ¼ cup
Garlic cloves – 4 or 5
Lemon juice – 3 tbsp
Extra- virgin olive oil – 5-6 tbsp plus extra for serving
Salt – As per taste
Olives – For garnishing(Optional)
Method of Preparation
Put all the ingredients in a blender or mixie.
Blend till it becomes a smooth paste.
Before serving drizzle olive oil over the dip and garnish with olives if required.
