SPECIAL FISH CURRY/NEYMEEN CURRY

Special Fish Curry / Neymeen Curry – Normally fish curry is prepared using tomato and tamarind in Kerala. But in this special version, the tanginess of the curry comes from curd/buttermilk and lemon juice. With pathiri or paalada it is absolutely divine..It is my personal favourite and I am sure you are also gonna like it.

Special fish curry has become a common menu at home from longtime …My mother got this recipe from Vanitha magazine long back.(now she really don’t remember from she got it) . Since then, it has been prepared umpteen times. After marriage, I had prepared this for Abu and now he too loves it. Do try and leave your valuable opinion…….

Recipe for Special Fish Curry(highly recommended)

Ingredients required

King Fish/ Aiyakoora/ Seer Fish /Neymeen – 10 pieces

Onion(chopped)- 2 medium sized

Ginger(chopped)- 1 tbsp

Garlic(chopped)- 2 tbsp

Chilli powder- 1/4 tbsp

Coriander powder- 1/2 tbsp

Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp

Green chillies- 4 no.s

Coconut – 1 small (Grate the coconut and grind it adding 1/4 cup water. The obtained coconut milk is thick coconut milk. After this again grind the same grated coconut adding 1/2 cup water. Now squeeze to obtain thin coconut milk)

Lemon juice- 1/2 tbsp

Salt- As per requirement

Coconut oil- 100 g( you can use any refined oil)

Coriander leaves(chopped)- 5-6 sprigs

Curd- quarter cup

Tomato-1 medium sized

Method of Preparation

Clean and wash fish pieces and reserve.

Heat oil in a saucepan (we use mannchatti/earthenware at home) and saute ginger and garlic.

Now add onion,green chillies and continue sauteing. Then add coriander powder, chilli powder and turmeric powder and saute till the raw taste is no more.

Now add thin coconut milk , enough salt and when it roll boils add fish pieces.

When the fish is cooked, add thick coconut milk.When this roll boils , add well beated curd and lemon juice . Remove curry from stove and sprinkle coriander leaves over it.

Special Fish curry is done!!

Whenever King fish is bought at home, Special Fish curry is a must at home.  I am sure once if you try this, you are not gonna stop with it………………….
